The condition of Ganiyat Sanni, the 17 year old girl who is in need of a transplant due to her kidney failure problem, is in critical condition.
THE IMPACT gathered that she was almost admitted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on Friday, May 17, 2019, due to her critical condition.
Her mother, Mrs Sanni Iyabo Afusat, speaking with THE IMPACT on phone, stated that her condition is critical, stating that her neck has swelled up.
According to her, Ganiyat’s condition necessitated the prescription of dialysis and several tests by the doctor attending to her.
“Ganiyat’s neck has swelled up. She was almost admitted at LASUTH on Friday, but for her doctor who advised dialysis and several tests”.
THE IMPACT also gathered that her treatment ran into late in the night on Friday at a clinic in Oshodi area where she normally do her dialysis.
Mrs Sanni thanked members of the public, who have contributed financially and offered prayers, for their kindness and supports, while also making further appeal for financial help towards her daughter’s kidney transplant.
Meanwhile, members of THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform, who have taken up the advocacy for Ganiyat’s treatment with the hashtag #SaveSanniGaniyat, have also appealed to members of the public and government for intervention in her condition before it is too late.
Ganiyat needs N8. 5m for the kidney transplant in Nigeria while her mother is ready to donate one of her kidneys to safe her life .
The sum of $15, 000 would be needed to carry out the transplant in India with additional $10, 000 needed for accommodation, feeding and flight expenses of the victim , mother and an assistant.
According to her medical report, she was diagnosed with the end stage kidney disease (ESRD), secondary to SLE, and she needs regular hemodialysis (twice or thrice weekly).
The report also states that she ultimately needs a kidney transplant as a definitive treatment.
As at May 13, 2019, the sum of N343, 473. 55 have been raised by the group, through appeal to the members of the public.
According to the chairman of the #SaveGaniyatSanni Campaign, Mrs Funke Awoyemi, the sum realized is still far small to what is expected from the public.
“We thank the members of the public who have responded to our appeal to save the life of Miss Ganiyat Sanni who has been diagnosed with failed kidneys.
“Her mother does not have the capacity to take good care of her and on her behalf, we are calling on the public to come to her aid and help in letting her daughter live a fulfilled life”, she appealed.
The group has also written letters of ‘Save Ganiyat’s Life’ to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Senator-elect, Lagos East Senatorial District, Hon. Bayo Osinowo, Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson, the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, Member of the State Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja and all the six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division and other well meaning individuals for assistance for Ganiyat .
